Rita Moreno: Still Bopping Along
I’ve been enjoying Rita Moreno on the new TV comedy, “Happily Divorced” (new episode is on TV Land tonight), so I’m happy to read this L.A. Times profile of her. The story, unfortunately, makes the usual mistake about listing her as one of a dozen or so people who have “won” all four big entertainment awards: Oscar, Tony, Grammy, Emmy. In fact, she’s in much more select company than that. Barbra Streisand did not “win” all four awards; her Tony was honorary. And Whoopi Goldberg did not win all four awards as a performer; her Tony was for producing. Helen Hayes and Audrey Hepburn are the only people other than Moreno to have won rather than received all four as performers.
