Early Oscars Derby: June 2011
The only 2011 releases that seem likely to figure in next year’s Oscars are “The Tree of Life” (pictured), “Super 8” (in tech categories), and “Midnight in Paris.” Of those three, the only surefire contender in any major categories is the last, directed by Woody Allen. It’s Woody’s biggest hit in 25 years, and is likely to yield noms for Owen Wilson and one of the supporting cast, perhaps Marion Cotillard.
