PBS Launches Ambitious Arts Series
PBS is launching its most ambitious series in years, a Fall Arts festival that is “designed to showcase American artists and performances.†That’s a laudable goal, but here’s what I’d like to know: why is the series launching with a show, “HMS Pinafore,†by the uber-British team of Gilbert & Sullivan? The production is from the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, but why not kick things off with something new and thoroughly American?
