Your Weekend: LW Recommends

Movies: “Super 8” is winning this week’s contest among critics, but if I were to venture into the land of sticky floors and texting fingers (the multiplex), I’d be more tempted by a Brit road comedy, “The Trip.” Television: Sarah Ferguson (“Fergie”) puts herself through a six-part “voyage of self-discovery” on Oprah’s network, OWN, starting Sunday. Think the Queen will watch? Books: I’ve been catching up with “The Tiger’s Wife,” a debut novel by Tea Obreht that just won the prestigious Orange Prize. So far, not much humor (I need it!) but lovely writing. Music: I’m also catching up with Paul Simon’s April CD release, “So Beautiful or So What.” It was produced by Simon and Phil Ramone. Sports: The NHL playoffs and the NBA playoffs are both proving highly competitive. (And LeBron is on the ropes: whoo-hoo!) All the excitement, in other words, that this past week’s vaunted Red Sox/Yankees series lacked. Finally: Don’t forget Sunday’s Tony Awards. LW predictions here. I don’t have high hopes for the plays-hating, musicals-heavy ceremony.
