Angela Says Gaga Could Play Mame
If people don’t hear from me today, it’s because my friend Bill Schneider read the following item and I had to rush his apoplectic self to the hospital. Bill’s favorite living senior actress, Angela Lansbury, was asked who could play her part in a revival of the Broadway musical “Mame,” and she replied: Lady Gaga (whom Bill loathes). Of course, this is wrong for so many reasons, and not just because Gaga is way too young for the role. But as Angela says, “She could sure wear the clothes.” But so could another pop icon, who would be perfect for the part: Madonna. I’m surprised Bette Midler‘s never expressed interest. But 8 shows a week can defeat even hard-working hoofers.
