Your Weekend: LW Recommends
Movies: The new “X-Men” has gotten some great reviews, but if you’re not in the mood for Spandex, how about the equally well-received new Ewan McGregor flick, “Beginners”? Television: What? You missed Paris Hilton’s new reality show? So did everybody else. Don’t miss the season premiere of another exotic species: “Whale Watch,” on Animal Planet. Books: It’s summer, so time to finally get around to cracking Proust. In between reading about madelines and such, whip up your own snacks and then read about other men of a culinary bent in “Man with a Pan,” edited by my old New Yorker assistant, John Donohue. Congrats to him! Sports: Wasn’t it finger-licking good to see the Mavs come back to slam-dunk the Heat in Game 2? Game 3 on Sunday in Dallas. Music: Really, there’s only one way to go: the new “Ukulele Songs” by the singular Eddie Vedder. The CD contains original songs and cover versions. Finally: Stop caring about the Palin bus and the Weiner penis. Turn off the computer and do some yard work instead.
