Kirsten Dunst: Oscar Contender?
Is Kirsten Dunst (pictured), who just won the Best Actress award at Cannes for Lars von Trier’s “Melancholia,” going to be the belle-of-the-ball competition to Meryl Streep‘s Maggie Thatcher at the next Academy Awards? Or is the prospect of any actor winning an Oscar for a von Trier film almost as strange as his movies themselves? Will the director’s Nazi comments at Cannes hurt the chances of anyone associated with “Melancholia”? Perhaps; although I don’t think Dunst will be blamed for a director who has a history of oddity.
