Your Weekend: LW Recommends
Movies: Can we resist the lure of the latest “Pirates of the Caribbean” installment? I suspect yes, unless you have young children tugging at your apron strings. “Midnight in Paris,” Woody Allen’s latest world-capital tour, is pleasant, but to round out your evening have a spicy meal afterward: the movie is Woody’s usual all-white-people concoction. Television: Most network television is winding down, including a guilty pleasure of mine, “Army Wives,” on Lifetime. I rarely make it through an entire episode, but there are some good bits here and there. Books: I’m looking forward to “In the Garden of Beasts,” about Hitler’s Berlin, by Erik Larson, the author of “The Devil in the White City.” (Are they ever going to make a movie of that?) Sports: More NBA playoffs. Miami and Chicago will battle till the end; OK City is showing surprising strength against Dallas. Music: Nice to see something — “Il Volo” — from Italy making the American charts, but did it have to be so cheesy? Finally: Join Michelle Obama and Jill Biden and honor our veterans. And dress your best for Judgment Day.
