“God Of Carnage” Changes Title
I’ve never been a fan of Yasmina Reza‘s play “God of Carnage” and I have less-than-zero interest in seeing the movie, even though it’s directed by Roman Polanski. But I do wonder why Sony Classics, which is releasing the film in the U.S., has altered the title to, simply, “Carnage.” This is a domestic comedy, and dropping the “God” bit doesn’t help convey that fact. “Carnage” sounds like a war movie or a video game. Maybe Sony is afraid that American winguts would think a movie with “God” in the title is sacrilegious. I don’t think religious extremists are likely to see anything directed by Roman Polanski.
