New Musical Brings Home The Bacon
At “War Horse,” which opens tonight at Lincoln Center Theater, we have a party game: anytime anyone refers to the show in equine metaphorical terms, you have to take a drink or pay a small fine. They could do the same at “Betty Blue Eyes,” Cameron MackIntosh’s first new musical in a decade. The production is based on an Alan Bennett movie starring Maggie Smith and a pig. It is an unusual project, even by Mackintosh’s standards – a new musical centred on a pig desperately attempting to escape the chop. Can it save Mackintosh’s bacon? Will it be the pork of the town? The reviewers (a round-up here) certainly think so.
