Fey Uses Pregnancy For Promotion
Yesterday, Tina Fey announced that she was pregnant on “Oprah.” Fey isn’t the first celebrity to use a pregnancy to promote a product, in this case her new, best-selling book “Bossypants.” What’s objectionable about the timing is that in February, when Fey was already at least three months pregnant and certainly knew about that fact, she published a piece, included in the new book, in The New Yorker, in which she described her dilemma about whether she should get pregnant again. (She and her husband, Jeff Richmond, have a 5-year-old daughter.) Without telling the readers that that decision had already been made and that she was pregnant. As a media platform, I guess The New Yorker doesn’t compare to “Oprah.”
