Audra McDonald Joining “Porgy”
Of “Porgy and Bess,” the opera he wrote with DuBose Heyward, George Gershwin is reported to have said, “I can’t be believe I wrote that.” In other words, because it was — is — so spectacularly good. There hasn’t been a major New York revival since 1983; now comes word of a production in Cambridge, Mass. which could come Gotham’s way. Whether it does or doesn’t, it will star Tony-winning actress Audra McDonald (pictured).
