Human/Animal: Creature Connection
Yesterday, as I watched a dress rehearsal of the extraordinary play “War Horse,” which starts previews tomorrow at Lincoln Center, I was extremely moved by the scenes between a teenage boy and his horse. Such bonds don’t surprise me at all, and I was happy to read this story in today’s NY Times explaining some of the science behind the attraction between humans and other animals. My favorite quotation from the piece came from a 12-year-old girl named Alana: “When I go to camp, I miss [our] dog more than I miss my parents.” I suspect she’s not alone among her peers.
