Bieber Comments: Hasselbeck’s Right
I hate to say it, but for once I agree with Elisabeth Hasselbeck, the resident Republican on “The View.” She defended the comments of Justin Bieber, who voiced his objections to abortion and pre-marital sex in the new issue of Rolling Stone. Hasselbeck said that she doesn’t know if it’s “necessarily appropriate” to ask a 16-year-old his opinions on such weighty topics (although if any subject is more relevant to a teenager than premarital sex, I’d like to know what it is!). But Hasselbeck said that Bieber’s “responses are valuable.” She added: “I think this is a young man, not a little boy, who has huge impact on people. And I think we should value all opinions of youth. I think it’s important.” (I wonder if Miss Liz will value quite so highly the opinions of one of her kids the day he comes home, at age 14 or 15, and says: “Mom, I just had sex: it’s my right.”) Also, I’m getting a little tired of liberals only defending celebs, of any age, when they voice opinions that correspond to theirs. In the RS interview, Bieber also criticized the American health system for bankrupting people and spoke up for gay people’s right to be who they are. I didn’t hear “The View” ladies obsess about those admirable opinions.
