“Prime Suspect” Nabs Its Jane
Peter Berg (“Friday Night Lights”) is as good a choice as any to direct the American remake of the classic Brit procedural series “Prime Suspect,” which made Helen Mirren a household name in this country. But no matter whom they cast in the Jane Tennison role — and it turns out to be Maria Bello (pictured) — there’s no way that the result will be anything but a slicked-out imitation. It’s a great idea to have a police procedural with a strong, conflicted woman at the center, but why not invent a new character?
