Who’s The Best Duchess Of Windsor?
It was only when I was reading the news that Madonna‘s new movie, “W.E.,” which Madge directed, would not premiere in May at Cannes, that I realized just how many current screen projects feature Wallis Simpson, later the Duchess of Windsor. There is that of Eve Best (pictured, above right) in “The King’s Speech”; that of Gillian Anderson (above left) in “Any Human Heart,” which will follow “Downton Abbey” in February on PBS’s Masterpiece Classic; and that of Andrea Riseborough (below), in Madonna’s flick. Best and Anderson are close to the age Wallis was when she dated and married King Edward VIII (late thirties, early forties). Madonna’s choice is in her late 20s: true Hollywood style to make things a decade younger.
