David Ehrenstein presents a tribute to Andy Warhol’s Superstar Nico on Dennis Cooper’s site. You don’t know Nico? Shame on you! She was the former singer of Velvet Underground, a fashion model, solo artist (the album “Chelsea Girl”), muse to director Philippe Garrel, and, James Wolcott once wrote, the “possessor of the most haunting wraith cheekbones of the 20th century.” Gwyneth Paltrow tried to channel Nico in “The Royal Tenenbaums.”
