Where “Downton” Gets Its Costumes
Want to know where “Downton Abbey” and just about every other period movie or TV show gets its costumes? Welcome to Angels, the world’s largest theatrical costumier. The “Downton” duds (such as those worn by the inimitable Maggie Smith, pictured) are among about five million items of clothing, footwear, hats or chest plate stored on this industrial site. Angels is so enormous – the costumes are kept on eight miles of hanging racks – and so successful that it is hard to find a film, or play, that has not been dressed by the company.
