Beck Bashes Liberal Theater Critics
Who knew? One of Glenn Beck’s minions says the bombastic Fox show host is a “theatre snob.” I guess that’s why he showers praise on such snob hits (that’s a joke, son) as “Wicked” and now “Spider-Man.” And complains that liberal theatre critics (my brethren, especially those of us who spell it “theatre” not “theater”) are trying to ruin the show, which is still in its warm-up phase on Broadway. Oh, really, Glenny? Seems to me the so-called liberal media have done nothing but shower attention on the production since it began previews back in the Pleistocene, publicity that has helped generate sold-out houses nightly. As for those critics, only two of them to my knowledge (Jeremy Gerard, Linda Winer) have broken the unspoken rule for reviewing and filed semi-critiques before the show’s official opening (right now: February 7). So critics have really had little to do with any naysaying. (Yet.)
