People Choice Awards: Obnoxious
No one will ever sum up what’s wrong with the People’s Choice Awards, held last night with Johnny Depp a big winner, better than EW’s Whitney Pastorek, who in 2009 summed them up with “You showed up? Here’s a trophy!” Last night’s awards were unusually annoying: two hours of celebs selling us projects and products in barely veiled promotions, and celebs condescendingly referring to viewers as “the people,” as if actors weren’t also people. In the immortal words of the supermarket-checkout rag, “Stars — They’re Just Like Us!”
