War Of The British Period Dramas
“Downton Abbey” and the remake of “Upstairs Downstairs,” both British period dramas, were hits in the U.K. and are about to be broadcast here on PBS. But the second seasons of both shows may be headed for a ratings war in Britain in the autumn. This comes on the heels of Jean Marsh, of “Upstairs Downstairs,” bitching about “Downton Abbey” beating her show to the punch in terms of its Edwardian subject matter. She said, “It might be a coincidence and I might be the queen of Belgium.â€
