Lloyd Webber’s “Wizard Of Oz”
Brace yourselves: Andrew Lloyd Webber is readying a giant production of “The Wizard of Oz” at the Palladium in London. (Think he looked at the weekly box office of “Wicked” before he embarked on the project?) It will star Brit-reality-show winner Danielle Hope (pictured with the composer). Says Andrew: “We’ve added four new songs because it didn’t have anything for either of the witches or the wizard. There is a slightly longer opening sequence and we’ve gone back to an ending that is closer to the book than the film was. I’m not going to give it away, but a lot of fans of the film have always quibbled with the ending (when Dorothy wakes up and realises it was all a dream). In the book Oz is a real place.†Excuse me, but the dream ending is brilliant!!! Do you think any of the new songs will be as unforgettable as “Over the Rainbow”? Me, neither.
