Give A Thought For Manning
While you are indulging in your holiday feasting this weekend, please give a thought, say a prayer, or whatever it is you do to organize yourself, for PFC Bradley Manning (pictured), the Wikileaks leaker. Charged with a crime but not convicted, Manning is nonetheless being held in extreme conditions that, in my view, constitute mental torture. So I am pleased to learn that both The Guardian and the Associated Press are reporting that the U.N.’s top official in charge of torture is now investigating the conditions under which the U.S. is detaining Manning at that marine brig in Quantico, Virginia, where he isn’t even allowed to exercise inside his cell, is denied pillows and sheets, and is forbidden to sleep between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m. Whatever you think of Wikileaks in general, Manning’s treatment is barbaric.
