“Upstairs Downstairs”: 2010 Remake
Fans of master-and-servant period drama will have plenty to keep them happy in 2011. First, there’s “Downton Abbey,” which was a big hit in Britain and which will be broadcast on PBS in January. Later in the year, PBS will give us an all-new version of the classic 1970s series “Upstairs Downstairs.” Comparisons between the two are inevitable, not least because of “Downton”’s popularity. But the cast and crew of “Upstairs Downstairs” – not least Jean Marsh (pictured, center), the only actor to appear in both old and new versions – are more worried about staying true to the original show, which was first broadcast nearly 40 years ago.
