“Spider-Man”: Broadway Speaks Out

THEATER SPIDER MAN 2As more fallout occurs from the injuries to actors on the “Spider-Man” stage (“Rent”‘s Adam Pascal Facebooked: “”They should put Julie Taymor in jail for assault!”), I’ve been thinking about the choreographer Elizabeth Streb. Streb is known for the difficult demands she places on her dancers; she once said, “Be willing to get hurt, but not so hurt that you can’t come back again.” But Streb’s dancers, when they sign up, know what they’re in for. The “Spider-Man” actors certainly knew they weren’t going to be doing “Messiah,” but I wonder how many of them were “willing to get hurt” when they joined.
