“Spider-Man”: Four Years To Recoup
The “Spider-Man” musical on Broadway is still in previews and I won’t pass judgment until I’ve seen it. It’s been selling out all performances, which is good for overall business in midtown Manhattan. What everyone wants to know, however, is how the hell a show that officially costs $65 million can ever make its money back? The New York Times says that it will have to do very strong business for four years before the show even begins to recoup its initial investment. And if the reviews aren’t on the level of “The Lion King,” then Spidey probably won’t be around for four years. I have no sympathy for the show’s investors, however. They just got their Bush tax cuts extended, so they’re hardly hurting.
