Obama Bestows Kennedy Honors
There was serious celebrity gridlock last night at the festivities for the Kennedy Center honorees in the arts, which President Obama presented to Oprah Winfrey (a great artist? I think not), Merle Haggard, Paul McCartney, Jerry Herman, and Bill T. Jones. At the reception before the show (which will be broadcast later this month), Secretary of State Hilary Clinton praised the honorees’ contributions, saying, “I’m writing a cable about it, which I’m sure you’ll find soon.” Carol Channing (pictured) was all aglow in Christmas red, to honor her “Hello, Dolly” composer, Mr. Herman. That Miss Channing has never won the Kennedy honors herself, while the likes of Oprah have, is a scandal of proportions much greater than anything Wikileaks has coughed up.
