James Wolcott: Black Swan Down
“Black Swan” is the movie of the week, with its champions claiming its a masterpiece and its detractors calling it Doo-Doo en pointe. I think James Wolcott is closer to the mark: “Ballet gets called a dying art, but it won’t go gently-at least, not in the high-brow horror movie that is Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Black Swan,’ which stars Natalie Portman and opens this month with Oscar dreams and Tchaikovsky nightmares. Imagine Carrie with toe shoes.”
