“Winter’s Bone” Wins At Gothams

jenlawrencewinters_bone_320It was no surprise that “Winter’s Bone” won Best Picture at last night’s NFP Gotham Independent Film Awards: the movie, a bleak study of rural life in the Ozarks, is a quintessential indie that has been acclaimed ever since Sundance. It was a mild surprise, however, that the flick’s star, Jennifer Lawrence (pictured, looking like Renee Zellweger’s daughter), lost the Best Breakthrough Performance award to Ronald Bronstein from “Daddy Longlegs.” But Lawrence will certainly nab an Oscar nom for Best Actress. Can “Winter’s Bone” score a nom for Best Picture? Probably.
