Tina Fey Wins Mark Twain Prize
Tina Fey, whom my friend Rex Okpodu thinks should be the Oscar host this year, was given the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor last night at the Kennedy Center. Now, I like Tina Fey perfectly well, but the fact that she was given the prize ahead of about a million older, more deserving artists (Woody Allen, for starters) is a little suspect. (Then again, Cary Grant never won a competitive Oscar and Proust wasn’t Nobel’d.) I’m almost willing to forgive Tina Fey her non-deservingness for some of the remarks she made at the awards show: she thanked the Kennedy Center, which she said will soon be known as “the tea party bowling alley and rifle range.”
