“Girl” Director Criticizes Fincher

Niels Arden Oplev, who directed “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” has unleashed some serious skepticism about the American remake that David Fincher is currently directing for Columbia. The pointed words and spirited defense of original Girl, Noomi Rapace, comes in an interview he gave to Word & Film. While I’d be shocked to prefer Fincher’s remake to the Swedish-language version, Oplev’s criticism of Hollywood’s remaking of foreign properties is a little whiney. That’s what Hollywood does: snap up other people’s properties and then pretend that they invented them. Plus Fincher’s a good director, so we should wait before judging. On the other hand, Fincher is on his way to winning an Oscar for Best Director, so I think he can handle a little criticism.
