“Women On The Verge”: My Take
I write a backstage blog for Lincoln Center Theater, including for “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown,” which opened last night on Broadway and whose cast I adore. I’ve gotten a lot of emails this morning asking me what I thought of the reviews, which were pretty unsparing. My reply: I’m being an actor on this one, dipping into the notices but not letting them affect me too much. To read too many of them: that way madness lies. I realized that the reviews weren’t going to provide much insight as soon as I finished Ben Brantley‘s in the Times, had a moment of wondering whether he was right, and then remembering: this is the guy who thought “Mamma Mia!” was a masterpiece. I smiled and turned the page.
