Presidential: Obama Chides Stewart
President Obama looked and sounded Presidential on “The Daily Show” last night, which means, of course, that the mainstream is painting the appearance as “too serious” and “defensive.” I thought that Obama was absolutely right in chiding Stewart and other influential sarcastic pundits for treating the seriousness of the economic situation the past two years as, too often, just a joke. Stewart’s attempts to be aw-shucks didn’t come off as well as they usually do. And did anyone else notice that Stewart, during the interview, indulged several times in his Woody-Allenish hand-cough gesture, and then, at commercial breaks and at interview’s conclusion, offered his coughed-on hand to the President, who was obliged to shake it? Yuk. I hope there was germicidal cream backstage.
