First 2010 Movie Award Noms
Awards season is underway! The Gotham Independent Film Awards — an attempt by the East Coast to get a jump on the Independent Spirit Awards, held on Oscar weekend in L.A. — have been announced, prior to the ceremony on November 29th in New York. The roster of nominees looks like Sundance 2010. Best Feature nominees are “Black Swan,” “Blue Valentine,” “The Kids Are All Right,” “Let Me In,” and “Winter’s Bone.” “Winter’s Bone” is the favorite right now, and its star, Jennifer Lawrence (pictured), is the favorite to win the Breakthrough Actor award. (Gotham gives Breakthrough and Ensemble awards, not Best Actor and Best Actress.) Lawrence is likely to win some indie and end-of-year critics’ awards, which will translate into an Oscar nom: but not an Oscar win.
