Sofia’s Movie & Chateau Chic
If I ever do see Sofia Coppola‘s new movie, “Somewhere,” which won the top prize at the Venice Film Festival but hasn’t exactly overwhelmed all critics, it won’t be because of the flick’s primary location: the Chateau Marmont hotel in Los Angeles. I stayed there several times in the 1990s, when it was starting to recover its hipness, if hipness can be assigned to a place where John Belushi overdosed (corpse pictured above). I’ve never found faded glamour — and the Chateau is the epitome of faded — to be very appealing. I guess I just don’t have the Chateau Marmont gene.
