Who Can Play Barry White Onscreen?
Somewhere in soul-funk heaven, the walrus of love may be turning in his jumbo-sized grave. Barry White is set to be immortalized on the big screen as a ghost who provides love advice to a hapless teen. What’s worse, the director of the project is Joel Schumacher, an excellent human being who has the reverse Midas touch with movies. Who could play Barry? Ving Rhames? Denzel if he pulled a DeNiro? My choice: Tyler Perry — if he kept the fat suit but ditched the Madea drag. He’d have to lyp synch, of course. Perry doesn’t have Barry’s can’t-get-enough-of-your-love basso profundo.
