An Orchestra Rises Out West

osmo-vanska_1702975cIt isn’t quite fair to say, as this story implies, that the Minnesota Orchestra has always been obscure. When it was called the Minneapolis Symphony and was conducted by Dimitri Mitropoulos, it cut quite a swath. But it’s fair to say that the MO’s current conductor, Osmo Vanska, has significantly raised the ensemble’s international profile. Like Esa-Pekka Salonen with the L. A.
