Changes To “A Little Night Music”
Playwright Thom Thomas (“A Moon To Dance By”) sent me the following item: ‘In reading about the fragility of Zsa Zsa’s health and with LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC getting renewed interest with replacements for the two female leads, I recalled seeing Eva Gabor (pictured) and Diana Barrymore in the roles many years ago at the summer-stock theatre in Warren, Ohio. Eva was charming, but couldn’t sing very well and Ms. Barrymore had her song “Liaisons” changed to “Affairs” since the producer didn’t think anyone in Ohio would know what “Liaison” meant. Also, to have a happy ending, Ms. Barrymore didn’t die. She had a miraculous recovery and stood up from her wheelchair (to applause) and walked off with her granddaughter. So much for the final smile of a summer night.’
