Reese, Nora Get Peggy Lee Fever
I’m generally more a fan of Nora Ephron essays that Nora Ephron movies, but I have to say that “Julie and Julia” was very enjoyable (at least the Julia parts). So I’m not going to throw stones at the news that Ephron is writing and directing a biopic of singer Peggy Lee (pictured) for Reese Witherspoon. Reese as Peggy is solid casting. (Reese of course won her Oscar for playing the singer June Carter Cash.) The only part of the equation that doesn’t thrill me: Peggy Lee was from North Dakota, a state I am dead certain that the urbane Ms. Ephron has never visited. But the story won’t much take place there, so maybe we’re safe. (Fun fact: years ago, Madonna worked on developing a Peggy Lee project for herself.)
