Long-Lost Mozart Piano: Found?
Too good to be true? Music historians believe that a piano in Germany may have been the instrument that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (pictured) played whenever he performed in Strasbourg. The piano was built by Christian Baumann (of whom Mozart was said to be a fan) in 1775 and an oil painting in Vienna shows Joseph Haydn playing what may be the same instrument. Christie’s confirmed the piano’s provenance in 2003 but has not had anyone investigate whether it was Mozart’s.
