“Expendables” = “Sex & The City”?
A Guardian story this week posits the idea that “The Expendables” is “Sex and the City” for guys. In other words, the “Sex and the City” movies were awful but women paid to see them anyway. Similarly, “The Expendables” more or less sucks, but that won’t deter the guys. I think of this old-dudes flick less like “Sex and the City” and more like the ancient bridge players in “Sunset Boulevard” known as “the waxworks.” There hasn’t been this much potential AARP membership material in a Hollywood film since the remake of “The Women.”
