CBS Adding 3 Gay Characters

It’s nice that CBS is adding gay characters to a few of its shows (“The Good Wife” is one of them). But it would be even nicer if the moves weren’t made, apparently, in response to the failing diversity grade assigned the network by GLAAD. GLAAD does wonderful work in keeping the entertainment industry on its toes, but there’s something entirely too pat about devising story lines like ordering from a Chinese restaurant: let’s see, we’ll have a 43-year-old divorced mother, a 6’2″ daughter with green eyes, and a gay uncle who wears red shoes on a Thursday. At the same time, since when hasn’t American show biz been formulaic?
