“Middlesex” Author Reveals New Book
Jeffrey Eugenides, whose gender-bending novel “Middlesex” is supposedly becoming an HBO series, has spilled a few details about his new book. The untitled new fiction – Eugenides didn’t want to reveal its name – is a kind of college love story, according to the author. “It begins on graduation day, in 1982, and involves three main characters. The sweep of the action takes place over the next year or so, as the characters begin their lives outside the university gates. The book deals, among other things, with religion, depression, the Victorian novel and Roland Barthes.” Of course Barthes is in it!
