The Source For “Sorcerer”
Think “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” opening this week, is just the latest piece of cheese starring Nicolas Cage? Think again. The fantasy epic adventure began as a 1797 poem, “Der Zauberlehrling,” by Goethe. (And you thought it was Mickey Mouse.) The 14-stanza work tells the tale of a sorcerer’s apprentice who demonstrates his knowledge of magic with an old broomstick and bucket, but forgets the spell to stop it.
