Haven’t We Seen This Before?
I thought the current trial in France of L’Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt (pictured) might make a good movie (it will certainly be the subject of one in France, not to mention a giant spread in Vanity Fair), but then I thought: I’ve seen this one before. You know, the story of a younger man who insinuates himself into the world of a hugely rich, vulnerable older woman and makes off, eventually, with piles of assets. The movie is called “Bernard and Doris,” starring Sarandon and Fiennes, and concerns Doris Duke. I hope the Bettencourt movie is better!
