A New Buena Vista Social Club?
DJ Gilles Peterson’s latest project highlights the talent of Cuba’s younger generation. It’s being billed as a Buena Vista Social Club for the young generation, but that’s a rather dodgy way to market the new project. The original Buena Vista CD was extraordinary because it unearthed virtuosos of old-style Cuban music and gave them a world spotlight. There’s something trite about garlanding the kids with the same treatment.
