South Africa’s Female Satirists
As South Africa prepares to welcome the world to the greatest show on turf, the World Cup, the country’s artists and performers are also getting some attention. One is Pieter-Dirk Uys, long known for his female alter ego, the Afrikaner socialite Evita Bezuidenhout. Another is is Ben Voss, whose female alter ego is Beauty Ramapelepele. Both ladies satirize South African social tensions.
