Dies Irae: NBC Cancels “Law & Order”
Today, we must all bow our heads and kaddish a bit: after 20 years, NBC has cancelled “Law and Order.” We must bow our heads not because the show will be particularly missed — it’s in reruns 23 hours a day on most cable boxes. No, we must grieve for the poor hard-working New York actor, who just lost one of the few ways left, now that soap operas are dying, to scratch out a buck between shamefully low-paying theatre gigs. And to add insult to this injury, NBC announced a new show, “Law and Order: Los Angeles.” All I’ve got to say is: remember what happened when the Sex & City gals bopped on down to southern Cal: awfulness of an extremely high order.
