Mirren Cast In “Arthur” Remake
When I first read the news that Helen Mirren had joined the cast for the remake of the 1981 comedy “Arthur,” I thought: isn’t she a little old for the Liza Minnelli love-interest-to-Dudley-Moore role? Then I learned that Miss Helen was to play the John Gielgud part — for which that actor won an Oscar. Makes sense. Mirren will not be the valet to Arthur (Russell Brand in the remake); rather, a nanny. I guess this means that there will be kiddies running about. (sigh) I’ll bet “they” will tone down Arthur’s alcoholism: falling-down drunks don’t usually make it into Hollywood movies these days.
