“South Park” Addresses Censorship

south-park-censored_320Last night, “South Park” revealed the true identity of Cartman’s father, and depicted a power struggle over the Muslim prophet Muhammad, who will hereafter be referred to in the manner of last night’s episode: as a “bleep” sound when the name was spoken, and as a blocked-out image labeled “censored.” In case you haven’t heard, after last week’s episode, “South Park” creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker were “warned” by a New York-based Muslim website about the potential danger of their supposed ridicule of a worshipped figure. Stone and Parker certainly have fortitude to take this topic on; artists have had their throats slashed for less.
